Description
The concept of hospice stem from medieval Europe. This place was a safe asylum for travelers. In the course of time, the name of the hospice clinged to nursing homes, shelters and hospitals. Today it is reserved for nursing homes with a special character, that means those in which people suffering from incurable diseases and their families find help. Monument Hospice for the city of Oświęcim is not only a building, but a team of professionals - doctors, nurses, therapists and volunteers - who want to give part of their free time to sick human. Because human and his leaving are the most important here ... Anya Foos-Graber in her book "Deathing: An Intelligent Alternative for the Final moments of life" pays attention to the integrity of a human based on the close connection of his spirituality with physicality. Therefore, patient's help should apply to both spheres. Moral support by co-participation in the community is necessary. Architecture tries to respond to this challenge and creates a place for social interaction. The building becomes a road and an outstretched hand ... Nature plays a significant role in this assumption. The bond between the external green zone and the inner hospital zone is the hothouse neighboring also with space of the internal courtyard. The materials are dominated by natural stone, brick and wood.
